The way people made it possible for these certain explosives to react would be thru the construction of gases that allows them to combine with heat for a greater volume. Nitro compounds, nitrogen and oxygen, when bonded together have an explosive effect. There is also a third component; they have to be extremely fast. Because if it doesn’t go quick the heat would dissolve and the gases would spread into the atmosphere and affecting the release of energy, so there wouldn’t be any trait of an eruption. What is wanted is having a tripe bond made from N2 to let go energy. In this chapter, it mention how Alfred Nobel, the one who created the Nobel prizes, did not believed in the prescription of nitroglycerin for treating angina. Nitroglycerin is a mixture of sulfuric, nitric acids, and water. It was said by Ascanio Sobrero it provoked headaches and it was a reference to Nobel. However, people continue to develop weapons like nuclear bombs and etc. A powerful exlposive equals to defense but also equals to threat. Countries with huge explosive powers are capable of starting a war like North Korea (though i dont think they'd win haha). The demand for more dangerous firearms only leads to unescapable death (which I think is unnessecary). Although it's nice to know that bows and arrows back then are now guns and bullets (meaning humanity continues to develop). What i learned about this chapter is how powder was made. When making powder, alcohol and water are needed. What caught my attention was the fact that instead of using plain water, urine from workers in the gunpowder mills was used. it was beleived that becasue of their heavy (wine) drinking, the urine would produce more effective gunpowder - Now that's crazy! What i also learned was that nitrogen compounds can be both explosive and non explosive, all depending on whether or not nitrogen and oxygen are bonder or not.( When they are bonded nitrogen compunds are explosive and when they are not bonded the are nonexplosive). Whats was disturbing to hear was what Alfred Nobel believed about weapons. He believed that.." the invention of a truly terrible weapon might act as a deterrent that could bring lasting PEACE to the world..", now how thats that work? We have weapons all over the world, countries such as South Korea whos power becoems even stronger as their nuclear weapons are the world's fear. I dont understand why Nobel would think such way, if the more the power and ability to control the greater the violence grows, in my opinio. Fear wont bring lasting peace...

Heat and gas are like buddies, the higher the temperature, the larger the volume of the gas. So the higher the temperature, bigger the explosion, in a way. When an explosion takes place, it is a very fast reaction, it has to be done fast and the right amount of gasses are to contribute, or the explosion could become much worse then it already is to be. The kieselguhr diluted the nitroglycerin ; this separated the nitroglycerin particles and slowed down the rate of decomposition. I think the creation of dynamite changed the world forever because it has been used for good and bad things as well. Dynamite is and has been used in construction sites to demolish buildings and it has been used in mines but it has also been used in wars for killing thousands of human beings. The creation of dynamite changed the way wars were fought and it helped develop many new weapons during history.
